Traces of SilenceMar 2024
In this digital video project, I scanned an abandoned village as a powerful statement on the consequences of uncontrolled urbanisation. Once the centre of life and community, the village is now empty, replaced by nature and decay. The use of scanning technology to preserve and document the remains of this place creates a stark contrast between rural life and the rapid and growing urban sprawl that is often left behind.
Focusing on the absence of human life and architectural decay, the video highlights the contradiction between the organic decay of rural areas and the artificial data-driven approach to modern development, where the silent, desolate landscape symbolises the social and cultural fragmentation caused by migration to urban centres, where the prospect of modernisation and economic progress often leads to the abandonment of rural spaces. With cracked walls, uncultivated streets and empty houses, the once prosperous way of life that is now shrouded in the shadows of massive cities is fading away.
