Decay Jul 2023
De-urbanisation (counter-urbanisation) is a concept proposed by the American scholar Boone in 1976.  This term refers to the increasingly widespread phenomenon of people leaving big cities to move to quieter places, i.e. rural areas. This is due to the many problems one encounters living in cities, such as traffic or pollution.

My project consists of a series of photographs taken with the technique of light painting, which consists of moving the light while you are taking the photo. In this way, the photo will be characterised by a light trajectory. The aim of my work is to show the impact that urban life can have on people. I therefore compared the rhythms and trajectories of life characteristic of urban areas with those characteristic of the countryside.  For example: the different population, the different use of space, the different lifestyles, the silence, the noise, the abandoned villages that over time have become part of nature and returned to the land, etc.

My work opposes the characteristic life of the city and consumerism to explore the marginality of the countryside, documenting landscapes with abandoned villages. Above all, it reflects on concepts such as the relationship between modernity and tradition, between the complexity of the city and the tranquillity of the countryside.
